Karen Allen Hislop is an occupational therapist and has worked with Edema and Lymphedema since 1997. She is LANA certified and training in the Vodder and Foldi Methods. She specializes in tailoring the treatment method to the individual so reduction is achieved quickly, comfortably, and is practical to maintain. This makes her uniquely qualified in her field.


Lymphedema

• Lymphedema is an accumulation of fluid in the tissues that causes swelling and occurs when the lymphatic system is not functioning sufficiently. Primary Lymphedema develops when lymphatic vessels are missing or impaired. Secondary Lymphedema develops when lymph vessels / nodes are surgical removed or impaired by scar tissue from chemotherapy, radiation therapy, infections, or trauma.
• Treatment for edema and lymphedema is covered by most health insurances. A doctor’s prescription is needed to begin therapy.
• Support is available after the treatment program is completed and follow-up visits may be scheduled as often as needed to ensure the home program is effective.
